I get kind of nerdy with words sometimes. (Okay, a lot.) This pair struck me as far too coincidental to ignore – I look back over 2010 and see how this has really been the center of my sporadic “creative block” experiences.
To boil it down: I think you have to be an inventor before you can take inventory.
Plenty of opportunities come along when I’d like to step back, take stock and congratulate myself on current accomplishments. This is fairly impossible unless you’ve actually DONE something. Yes, this seems like a “no duh” sort of thing, but please don’t tell me I’m the only one that does this now and then.
I think we need to travel before we can talk about where we’ve been. There’s a certain air to the collective unconscious that avails exposition without exploration. Where this damages us, however, is in the area of inherited expertise vs actual expertise. One is head knowledge, the other is actual know-how…the stuff dreams are made of.
This post certainly doesn’t break any barriers of logic, though I hope it does insist you ponder how things work in your own processes. The realm of the human mind – combines with the interconnecting fibers of our existence in this universe – are very fascinating to me. I don’t claim to have answers, just a series of questions that I’d like to explore further.
As for taking inventory, I’d like to do a fair share of that in 2011, so I’m going to stop dreaming and get back to work. I have some fun things planned – hope you stay tuned.
