Working the Dream

I’m setting a timer for 15 minutes: the goal is to put words onto this page while preparing coffee for the day. It’s Monday, which means that new beginnings and pressures of the work week have arrived. But it’s also a time when I think that maybe, just maybe, this will be the week when I make progress toward long-term goals.

Taking action toward a goal is a funny thing, because it often looks just like doing any other thing that needs to be done that day. I was pondering what it looked like to, “live the dream” in a specific field and realized that it probably looks a lot like doing a day’s work.

Working the dream, 15 minutes a day, feels like the right way forward. Small, measured steps, taken with intention on a long path headed toward a distant goal.

This only took 7 minutes. But it’s more than I’ve written in a long, long time. Now the pressure is on: can I do it again?
